Untangling the Bible
The Judeo-Christian Bible is quite messy, complicated, and hard to understand at times, yet still an extremely important and fascinating collection of ancient religious literature. Despite its tremendous impact on Western civilization and culture, the stories and teachings in the Bible are very often misunderstood by people. Much of these misunderstandings come from ideological presuppositions about it, like that it is the infallible and inerrant word of God as evangelical Christians see it, or that it is a work of propaganda and deceit as radical atheists see it. To avoid misunderstanding the Bible, we need to learn about the historical context within which each of the 66 books were composed, who the authors were, and why they wrote what they wrote. In this blog, I explore and analyze the Bible in depth, using insights from the top biblical scholars and academic resources to better understand both the Old and New Testaments, as well as the history of Christianity and Judaism.
